NEW CONSTRUCTION IN OLD NORWICH

Members are invited to a visit to two construction projects underway in Bishopgate in the very heart of historic Norwich.

The visit will include a tour of the new classroom block being undertaken by Abode Construction for Norwich School and a new sheltered housing scheme being carried out by H Smith & Sons for the Great Hospital.

Norwich School architect Chaplin Farrant and The Great Hospital architect Cowper Griffiths will talk through the planning and design challenges faced when undertaking projects in a sensitive conservation area and how these has impacted upon the design of the buildings and selection of materials used in construction.

Bring own PPE

No parking available on either site but there is a public car park near to Adam & Eve pub.

Format/Timings:

12.25pm – meet at Norwich Lower School site (Bishopgate entrance)

12,30pm – Intro by NFCI, brief project overview by Chaplin Farrant/Abode

12.45pm – Walk around Norwich School Site

1.00pm – Crossover to Great Hospital site

1.05pm – Brief project overview by Cowper Griffiths/Smiths

1.20pm – Walk around Great Hospital site

1.35pm – Event ends
