The Place, Great Yarmouth with Morgan Sindall and Chaplin Farrant

We are nearing completion of the redevelopment of the former Palmers Department Store in Great Yarmouth. Like many towns a large, vacant building on the high street sat empty and is being repurposed as a centre for lifelong learning through the relocation of the public library and a collaboration between East Coast College and University of Suffolk to provide degree courses in the town centre.  

Demolition was never a consideration; the existing building is a much-loved town asset with a strong connection to the community, so the challenge early on was to find a creative and sustainable new use that supported its long-term vision.

This site visit will encompass a tour of the building with the contractor Morgan Sindell and the Architects Chaplin Farrant – Jerene Irwin
